ALGAE REMOVAL FOR EXTERIOR WALLS & RENDER
Professional Algae Removal from Exterior Walls & Render
Remove red, green and black organic staining from exterior walls, render and masonry with professional treatments selected to suit the surface and level of contamination.
UNDERSTANDING EXTERIOR ALGAE
What Is Algae and Why Does It Grow on Exterior Walls?
Algae are simple organisms that thrive where moisture, shade and suitable temperatures allow them to establish on exterior surfaces. On houses and commercial buildings, they commonly appear as green, red, pink or darker staining on render, painted walls, masonry and other exposed finishes.
They do not need soil to grow. Moisture held on the surface, together with airborne spores and organic material, can be enough for colonies to develop and spread. North-facing elevations, shaded gables, walls close to trees and areas that dry slowly after rain are particularly vulnerable.
The colour can vary depending on the organisms present, the surface and environmental conditions. Green growth is common on damp shaded walls, while red or pink staining can be particularly noticeable on light-coloured render. Darker staining may involve a mixture of algae and other biological contamination.
OUR ALGAE REMOVAL PROCESS
1. Inspection
We assess the surface type, condition, access, staining and level of biological growth before selecting the most appropriate treatment.
2. Surface Preparation
Loose debris and surface contamination are addressed, with surrounding areas protected where required before treatment begins.
3. Algae Treatment
A suitable professional softwash cleaning solution or biocide treatment is applied at low pressure to target algae and associated organic growth.
4. Final Rinse & Aftercare
Where rinsing is required, surfaces are carefully rinsed and surrounding areas left tidy. Where residual biocide is used, we explain how the treatment continues working after application.
WHY CHOOSE CLEANSAFE FOR PROFESSIONAL ALGAE REMOVAL
Cleaner Walls. Controlled Treatment. Longer-Lasting Results.
Improved Appearance
Treats red, green and darker organic staining to give exterior walls and render a cleaner, better-maintained appearance.
Gentler on Surfaces
Softwashing uses lower pressure than aggressive power washing, reducing unnecessary stress on render, paint and masonry.
Suppresses Regrowth
Professional biocide treatment can help suppress regrowth and slow recolonisation by algae and other organic growth.
Better Property Presentation
Cleaner exterior walls can significantly improve the overall appearance of a home or commercial property.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Algae Removal FAQs
-
Green algae commonly develops where surfaces remain damp and shaded for long periods. North-facing walls, areas close to vegetation and walls that dry slowly after rain are particularly susceptible.
-
Red or pink staining can be caused by biological growth that develops on damp exterior surfaces. The exact organism cannot always be identified by colour alone, so we assess the surface before recommending treatment.
-
In many cases, yes. Professional softwashing and biocide treatment can be very effective on algae and related organic staining, subject to the condition and type of render.
-
Not as a default method. Aggressive pressure can damage or mark some rendered and painted surfaces, so we use lower-pressure treatment methods where appropriate.
-
That depends on the treatment used. Some cleaning systems produce a rapid visible improvement, while residual biocide treatments continue working over time and remaining staining can gradually weather away.
-
Biocide can help suppress regrowth and slow recolonisation, but no exterior treatment can permanently prevent biological growth.
-
That depends on shade, moisture, orientation, surrounding vegetation and the surface itself. Periodic maintenance treatment can help keep recurring algae under control.
